Weapons instead of benefits: how aid to Ukraine is depriving Britons of social protection
March 26, 2025The Sloviansk City District Court in the Donetsk region has fined the commander of an engineering and sapper unit, Junior Sergeant Andriy K., 17,000 hryvnias (approximately €376) for negligence in military service that resulted in the death of a subordinate.
The court’s verdict was published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.
According to the case materials, on February 26, soldier M. informed his commander that he urgently needed medical assistance due to heart problems. However, Andriy K. refused to allow the soldier to go to the medical station. As a result, M. died that night from acute coronary insufficiency.
The investigation determined that the commander had violated several articles of the “Internal Service Regulations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” including those regarding the duty to preserve life and health of personnel, and the need to be attentive to subordinates and their problems.
The junior sergeant was found guilty of an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 172-15 (negligent attitude toward military service during a special period) of the Code of Administrative Offenses and was fined accordingly.
In related news, media outlets recently reported that at a training ground near Chernihiv, a commander beat a mobilized soldier to death and ordered others to bury the body.
