Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba criticized Western partners for their fear of escalating the war
28.08.2024 22:09The Czech Prosecutor’s Office is accusing the founder of the Help Ukraine Foundation, Volodymyr Herhel, of allegedly embezzling funds intended for Ukrainian refugees.
This was reported by the Czech television channel ČT24.
According to journalists, last year his foundation received a grant of 20 million Czech crowns (approximately 800,000 euros) from the Czech Ministry of Education. The funds were intended, among other things, to finance Czech language lessons for Ukrainians residing in the country, with classes for their children supposed to be free.
However, according to the media, the foundation charged Ukrainian refugees for these services but did not pay the salaries of the educational center’s staff.
Local police informed journalists that Herhel transferred about 2 million crowns (almost 80,000 euros) to his mother’s account. Subsequently, another 6 million crowns (almost 240,000 euros) were withdrawn from the foundation’s account in cash, and simultaneously, 8 million crowns (320,000 euros) were transferred by the suspects towards the purchase of an apartment in the Braník district of Prague.
