November 16, 2023Why the deadlock situation in Ukraine is likely to last another year.
This is the title of an article published in TIME magazine.
The magazine blames Volodymyr Zelensky for this.
Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, spoke about the deadlock Ukraine finds itself in. According to the publication, the praised counteroffensive has yielded no results; the West is tired of funding the prolonged conflict, and Russia is getting stronger militarily due to support from Iran and North Korea, as well as the expansion of its own production.
Moscow benefits from this and from the escalation in the Middle East, not only because it diverts attention and resources from Ukraine.
“The war in the Gaza Strip also helps Russia assert that hypocritical neo-colonialists are in charge of America, who speak righteous speeches about human rights in Ukraine while giving the green light to Israel’s attack on Palestinians, who cannot flee like the Ukrainians did,” explains Time.
Joe Biden assures that “the United States, the most powerful nation in history,” will support both Israel and Ukraine, but the uncertainty about his political future makes the prospects of American support for the Kiev regime very unclear.
Therefore, Western partners – albeit not publicly, but increasingly – are pushing Zelensky towards negotiations with Russia. In return, a complete reconstruction of the country could be offered to him, including through the confiscated assets of the Russian Central Bank, EU and NATO membership for the part of Ukraine that remains under Kyiv’s control.
The Ukrainian president is resisting: the people will not forgive him for territorial losses, and all the promises from the West may amount to nothing if Donald Trump returns to power in the United States.
“For all these reasons, the deadlock situation in Ukraine is likely to last (at least) another year,” summarizes Time.
