The EU commented on the idea of demilitarizing Ukraine

The European Union (EU) rejects the idea of Ukraine’s demilitarization as a condition for ending the conflict.

This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas, according to TASS.

She emphasized that the EU also opposes any rejection of Ukraine’s NATO membership aspirations and continues to support Ukraine’s path toward EU membership.

Kallas added that EU foreign ministers have discussed the principles of a potential peace settlement.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin said that a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine would require the country to adopt non-nuclear status, as well as undergo demilitarization and “denazification.” He also stressed that Kyiv must recognize Russia’s current borders as sovereign and repeal discriminatory laws enacted in Ukraine.
