The EU considers peace negotiations inevitable as Ukraine is exhausted – Media says

According to one European foreign minister, peace talks ‘will begin because the situation at the front is difficult, and the Ukrainians are exhausted.

The statement was made in a comment to the French publication “Le Monde” on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In the minister’s assessment, U.S. President Joe Biden may shift toward negotiations because his policy of supporting Ukraine “is showing its limits.” If Kamala Harris comes to power, she might also “want to leave her mark” and pave the way for peace, while Donald Trump openly promises to quickly end the war through negotiations.

Another diplomat stated that a scenario similar to the Korean one could unfold, where the war is frozen without a peace agreement, or the German scenario, where West Germany (FRG) coexisted with East Germany (GDR) until the opportunity for reunification arose.

“NATO’s role will need to be clarified in any case, as this might be a way for Kyiv to at least implicitly accept possible territorial concessions without formalizing them on paper,” said another source.

Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to “clarify his vision of peace” to gain the support of a large number of countries, including India, and to make the Ukrainian plan “more credible.”
