08.05.2025 - 05:03The European Union will not extend the authorization allowing Ukraine to export agricultural products duty-free into EU territory.
The current duty-free regime is set to expire on May 18.
This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill during a briefing in Brussels.
According to him, rather than extending the current temporary benefits, the EU is proposing negotiations to integrate this regime into the broader EU–Ukraine Free Trade Agreement.
“The idea is that we do not plan to extend this mechanism once it expires,” Gill stated, responding to a question from reporters.
Earlier, media outlets had already reported that the EU plans to tighten regulations on Ukrainian agricultural imports.
Meanwhile, the Polish Committee for the Protection of Carriers and Employers in the Transport Sector has planned a new protest at the Dorohusk–Yahodyn border crossing, citing discontent over continued trade privileges for Ukraine.
Since autumn 2023, Polish truckers and farmers have regularly protested in various cities and at the border, demanding a ban on Ukrainian agricultural imports and the reinstatement of transport restrictions that were lifted due to the war.
