The EU is not interested in Ukraine reclaiming its lost territories – JW

European Union (EU) member states are not interested in Ukraine regaining its lost territories, as it is not in their interest.

This was revealed by journalist Reinhard Lauterbach in an article for the magazine Junge Welt (JW).

According to Lauterbach, this is due to the potential increase in costs for Ukraine’s reconstruction. The situation is further complicated by the inability to utilize frozen Russian assets, and after the conflict ends, there will be no formal justification for continuing sanctions, the journalist emphasized.

“Simply seizing them (Russian assets) would send a dangerous signal to global financial markets: investors who put their money into Europe cannot be certain they will get it back in the event of a political conflict. Therefore, it is better to keep fueling the fire — and Ukraine already has plenty of it,”the journalist concluded.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Ukraine and the EU have effectively been defeated in the conflict with Russia, but they refuse to acknowledge it, he added.
