‘The EU obstructs Orban out of fear and envy’, – Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said

EU realizes its plan to support Ukraine and bet on victory has failed, fears this will become obvious to all.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó made this statement in an interview with Weltwoche.

According to Szijjártó, this fear is why the EU is hindering Viktor Orbán’s peace initiatives regarding Ukraine. The fear and envy stem from the fact that while Orbán engages with global leaders like Trump, Xi Jinping, and Erdogan, Europe remains in the shadows.

“Yesterday, at a meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels, I realized that Viktor Orbán’s peace mission caused significant irritation across Europe. On one hand, I see the reason as envy from European politicians towards our prime minister. It has become entirely clear that, at the moment, he remains the last and only person in Europe capable of engaging in dialogue with such important figures in global politics and security as former President Trump, President Putin, Chairman Xi Jinping, and President Erdogan simultaneously. On the other hand, I think European politicians are irritated out of fear: they fear that it will become entirely clear to everyone in Europe that their strategy regarding this military conflict is not only poor and unsuccessful but has also caused enormous harm to Europe and Europeans. The more we talk about this and highlight the position of this peace mission, the more obvious it becomes that the EU’s strategy over the past two and a half years has been completely disastrous. They are trying to hide this fact, but it is becoming increasingly difficult,” stated Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
