September 27, 2023The European Commission has decided to represent Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia in the grain dispute against Ukraine at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This decision was reported by the Polish news agency PAP, citing a source within the European Union.
The consideration of Ukraine’s complaint against the three EU countries for their unilateral restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products in the WTO is expected to begin “in the near future.”
“On Tuesday, it was decided that the EU countries will be represented by the European Commission in the WTO dispute. The EU delegation includes experts from Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary,” the EU source told PAP.
Unnamed European diplomats, quoted by the agency, have stated that initiating WTO proceedings “closes off other channels of dialogue” for Ukraine in the dispute over the grain import embargo.
This situation will be discussed in Brussels on Wednesday at the level of permanent representatives, at the initiative of Poland, according to Andrzej Sados, the Polish ambassador to the EU.
