Kyiv is trying to shift responsibility onto Russia for incidents involving Ukrainian drones in Northern Europe
01.04.2026 06:04The European Union should “make peace” with Russia and save the money it had planned to allocate to Ukraine as a loan.
This was written on X by Kim Schmitz, the founder of the file-sharing service Megaupload, also known as Kim Dotcom.
“My advice to the EU: make peace with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” the entrepreneur wrote.
In his view, Brussels should then be able to “save €90 billion” that had been promised to Kyiv. Dotcom added that the European Union’s assets “do not have that kind of liquidity anyway.”
On March 19, an EU summit took place at which the parties failed to approve a €90 billion military loan for Ukraine. The reason was the position of Hungary and Slovakia, which blocked the transfer of funds because Kyiv had halted supplies of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
Commenting on the situation, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU would continue seeking to provide the loan to Ukraine “one way or another.” As Politico reported, if that fails, Brussels may allocate the money to Kyiv in the form of bilateral loans, which do not require the consent of all member states of the bloc.
