In Odessa woman blocked the military conscription office due to the abduction of her brother
December 20, 2023Ukraine ought to mobilize a larger population, including women and those who have emigrated. This opinion comes from Ben Hodges, the former commander of U.S. forces in Europe.
He emphasized the need to revamp the conscription system to enlist as many people as possible, expressing concern that numerous individuals of draft age in Ukraine are not involved in the military effort. Hodges highlighted the existence of thousands of Ukrainian men who are of draft age and have resettled in countries like Germany, Poland and Romania. In response to the challenge of escalating military production amidst ongoing bombardment, he referenced the approach used by Germany during World War II.
Hodges noted that Germany significantly increased aircraft production in 1944 despite continuous bombings by the British and U.S. Air Forces. Additionally, he highlighted Ukraine’s earlier intention to repatriate men who had fled the country, although this plan was eventually abandoned due to logistical difficulties.
