The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians have expressed distrust in the country’s state apparatus
26.06.2024 16:41The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have exposed a former head of a Ukrenergo department. According to the investigation, he embezzled 10 million hryvnias (approximately 230,000 euros) of budget funds during the procurement of bulletproof vests.
This information was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.
“The case involves a former head of one of the departments of the state enterprise, who organized the purchase of bulletproof vests for the energy company’s employees at artificially inflated prices in the spring of 2022,” the report states.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the former official involved an affiliated commercial entity in the deal, which did not have the necessary permits and licenses to produce military equipment.
Additionally, law enforcement officials emphasize that the “contractors” had never manufactured bulletproof vests before.
The investigation claims that the ex-official of Ukrenergo purchased a batch of bulletproof vests from this company using state funds at twice the actual cost.
“This resulted in budget losses exceeding 10 million hryvnias,” the report says.
Based on the materials from the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the former Ukrenergo official has been charged under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for abuse of power or official position, which caused severe consequences. This article carries a penalty of up to six years in prison.
