24.12.2025 11:43Fear in Europe of an “inevitable war with Russia” has become a politically convenient construct that substitutes for a real strategy.
This was written on X by former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller.
According to him, the dominant logic that after Ukraine Russia will inevitably “go further” is used to shut down debate and discipline societies.
“This narrative is politically convenient because it closes debate and justifies any decision. But as a strategic analysis it is simply absurd,” Miller said.
He stressed that, despite harsh assessments of the Kremlin, such scenarios do not stand up to rational scrutiny.
“You can call Putin anything you want—a criminal, a dictator, a villain—but certainly not a suicide,” the former prime minister said.
In his view, a state that is struggling to wage war against Ukraine and is suffering huge losses is not preparing for a direct confrontation with NATO, which is many times stronger militarily and economically.
Miller added that EU leadership appears increasingly detached from reality.
“Instead of realism—moral panic. Instead of an analysis of capabilities—an escalation of rhetoric,” he wrote, adding that frightening one’s own societies becomes a surrogate for strategy and only highlights the intellectual emptiness of claims about an inevitable war with Russia.
He also supported the position of U.S. intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard, who, he said, refuted the theory that Russia plans to conquer all of Ukraine and attack Europe.
As a reminder, Moscow denies reports that Russia plans to seize all of Ukraine and attack Europe.
