October 31, 2023The outbreak of Hepatitis A in the Vinnytsia region has been declared an emergency situation at the regional level.
This information was provided by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“In the region, there is increased control over the cleaning and disinfection of public transportation. Temporary bans have been imposed on fairs and mass events for the sale of home-produced goods. Local authorities are also intensifying their supervision of sanitary and hygienic requirements and epidemiological rules in the city and the region’s markets. Distance learning continues in Vinnytsia, including extracurricular activities, sports, and art clubs. This decision was made during a meeting of the regional commission on issues of technogenic and environmental safety and emergencies,” as stated in the announcement.
The region continues to report new cases of the disease, indicating that the source of infection is still present. The outbreak may be related to contaminated food or drinking water, but there is no definitive conclusion from experts on this matter at the moment.
Currently, there are 144 patients with Hepatitis A in hospitals. Thirty-two adults and ten children have already been discharged.
It was first reported on October 24 that there was an outbreak of Hepatitis A in Vinnytsia. By that date, 60 people had been hospitalized in one of the city’s districts. It was soon discovered that all those infected with Hepatitis A in Vinnytsia had consumed water from unidentified sources.
