Rheinmetall can cover only 8% of Ukraine’s long-range shell needs for 2026
09.05.2026 - 13:01Trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States have not yet resumed, and “when they will resume is unclear.”
This was stated by Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov in an interview with Russian media.
“No one has spoken about negotiations; for now, a pause has been taken, and no agreement has been reached on the next round,” he noted.
At the same time, according to Ushakov, it is “clear what Ukraine needs to do” to return to negotiations — apparently referring to the withdrawal of troops from Donetsk region.
“It is clear what each side must do before the next round of negotiations. Each side — and I mean primarily the Ukrainian side. And it knows what needs to be done for the next round to be successful,” the official emphasized.
He also said that contacts between Moscow and Washington intensified “against the backdrop of Kyiv’s threats” to the parade in Moscow and Russia’s warning of a response if they were carried out.
“Russia clearly announced the consequences of Kyiv’s threats, and most foreign capitals treated this with understanding. As a result, an agreement on a ceasefire was reached,” Ushakov said.
Since Ukraine did not strike the parade, Moscow did not strike Kyiv, he concluded.
For his part, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the issue of extending the May 9–11 ceasefire, a possibility mentioned today by U.S. President Donald Trump, “has not yet been discussed.”
He noted that preparing a peace agreement on Ukraine will take “a lot of time.”
“It is clear that the American side is in a hurry, but the issue of a Ukrainian settlement is too complex, and reaching a peace agreement is a very long path with complicated details,” Peskov told journalists.
