Lukashenko said that Russia would use nuclear weapons for Belarus’s sake
21.04.2026 - 13:06The Kremlin reacted positively to Rumen Radev’s victory in Bulgaria’s parliamentary elections.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is “encouraged” by Radev’s remarks about being ready to resolve disputed issues with Russia through dialogue.
At the same time, the Kremlin stressed that it is still too early to view the election results as a sign of a broader European shift toward Moscow. According to Peskov, anti-Russian statements are still coming from Brussels.
Radev’s coalition, Progressive Bulgaria, won 44.6% of the vote and may secure around 130 seats in the 240-seat parliament. This is one of the strongest results for a single party in the country in recent decades. Boyko Borisov’s GERB party received about 13%, while the pro-European PP-DB coalition got roughly 14%.
Radev, who previously served as president of Bulgaria, called the result an “unconditional victory” and promised to put an end to political instability and the “oligarchic model of governance.”
His success has caused a stir in Europe. Radev opposes military aid to Ukraine and supports restoring supplies of Russian energy resources, which runs counter to the EU’s line. Some analysts consider his victory beneficial for Moscow, although Radev himself says he intends to keep Bulgaria on its European course and is only calling for a more pragmatic approach.
