Trump understands that he cannot force Ukraine to make concessions without something in return — Bloomberg
November 8, 2024The Kremlin has stated that it is prepared to discuss Ukraine with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump but will not back down from its claims over four Ukrainian regions.
This information reported according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“The readiness for contacts with Trump remains; it was emphasized by Putin yesterday, though no specifics have been detailed. Russia’s willingness to discuss a resolution in Ukraine with Trump does not imply any adjustments to the demands outlined in Vladimir Putin’s peace initiatives, which were announced on June 14 at the Foreign Ministry,” Peskov stated.
At that time, Putin demanded that Ukraine withdraw its forces from four regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, as a condition for ending the war.
Previously, Peskov mentioned that the Kremlin “currently has no understanding” of when a conversation between Putin and Trump might take place. He added that “theoretically” Putin could call Trump, but it remains to be seen how events unfold.
Peskov also noted that Putin’s congratulatory message to Trump on his election victory should be considered official. However, he declined to make any predictions about the future, such as whether Putin would invite Trump to Moscow for the 80th Victory Day celebrations, since there have been no contacts as of yet.
It is worth noting that Trump has pledged to end all wars and intends to speak with Putin.
