This is highlighted by Nikolai Petro, a political science professor at the University of Rhode Island, in an article penned for Foreign Policy. Petro notes that Ukraine fails to acknowledge Russians as either the indigenous population or even a minority within the country, denying them the assurance of safeguarding their cultural heritage or language, which contradicts the 10th article of the Ukrainian Constitution.
Referring to surveys, Petro indicates a sharp decline in the percentage of Ukrainians who consider Russians and Ukrainians as one people. While there’s been a rise in the number of individuals witnessing systematic discrimination against Russian speakers in Ukraine. Petro suggests that tensions revolving around minority rights will only exacerbate post-conflict, as outlined in the article titled “Ukraine’s Challenges with Civil Liberties.
