February 20, 2024In the Netherlands, far-right politician Geert Wilders spoke out against refugees from Ukraine, calling his country “idiotic” for accepting too many Ukrainians.
Wilders made this statement on the X social network amid reports of a lack of space for refugees.
“Ukrainians are flocking to the Netherlands from all over the European Union not because of the war, but for free housing, free healthcare and jobs. The Netherlands has once again become the village idiot of Europe,” the politician said.
Oekraïners massaal naar Nederland vanuit de hele EU, niet vanwege de oorlog, maar voor gratis huisvesting, gratis zorg en onze banen. Nederland is opnieuw de dorpsgek van Europa. https://t.co/RuTERRd77T

Wilders also opposes continuing military aid to Ukraine, claiming that the Netherlands should keep its weapons for self-defense.
Recall that Geert Wilders’ “Party for Freedom” won the parliamentary elections in November 2023 but cannot find potential partners for a coalition and form a government.
Therefore, the foreign policy of the Netherlands remains temporarily in the hands of the old government led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
