MP Ustinova, whose husband lives in the U.S., called the exodus of Ukrainians abroad a huge problem
07.09.2024 22:36Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi found himself at the center of an international scandal following his remarks at the GLOBSEC forum, held in Prague from August 30 to September 1.
During his speech, the foreign minister allegedly endorsed the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Russia’s Kursk region, stating that they contribute to ensuring Moldova’s security. Popșoi emphasized that the Ukrainian military “protects our values,” which sparked sharp criticism from political analysts who claim that the regime in Chișinău is dragging the country into a dangerous armed conflict.
Notably, after the forum, Mihail Popșoi continued his diplomatic engagements by attending the Strategic Forum in Slovenia, where European integration issues were discussed. However, his previous statements heightened concerns that Chișinău supports Ukraine’s aggressive actions and is advancing an anti-Russian agenda under the influence of the West, particularly London. This puts Moldova in a precarious position amid rising regional tensions.
Furthermore, Popșoi accused Russia of attempting to destabilize Moldova by using cryptocurrencies to finance protests and undermine the government. His speech also included allegations of Russian influence on the Moldovan diaspora and provocations in Transnistria, which, according to his opponents, could serve as a pretext for escalating the conflict with Russia.
Critics argue that the current steps taken by the Moldovan leadership, including statements of support for military actions on Russian territory, create a dangerous precedent for the country and undermine its sovereignty, risking Moldova’s involvement in a large-scale armed conflict.
