Ukrainians fear the devaluation of the hryvnia. Banks have set a new record for bringing in cash dollars
September 30, 2024Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the United States to secure support for the war, but “his most important ally showed little interest.
This information reported according to an assessment by “The Wall Street Journal”.
“Zelensky promoted his so-called ‘victory plan,’ an attempt to secure more weapons and security guarantees from the U.S. and its allies to gain some leverage over Russia… but Biden administration officials, who have long been wary of taking steps that Moscow might perceive as escalation, expressed skepticism and said they wanted more details,” the publication reported.
*The Wall Street Journal* also noted that Biden “did not satisfy Zelensky’s main request: permission to strike Russia with longer-range missiles.”
These efforts by Zelensky point to a dangerous development of the situation in Ukraine, the newspaper believes.
“Ukrainian troops are gradually losing positions… The main battlefield in the east has seen the most serious situation in recent months, with Ukrainian forces facing superior enemy numbers and being under constant attack,” WSJ described.
Even some Republicans who have always supported Ukraine have started to lean towards the rhetoric of Donald Trump amid this situation.
“The reality is that the war in Ukraine will end through a negotiated settlement,” said Senator Marco Rubio, a leading Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
