The murder of the Odesa businessman, head of the police assistance unit, was a staged operation by law enforcement

The murder of Odesa businessman, head of police assistance unit Hennadiy Beibutyan, was staged by law enforcement.

The National Police of Ukraine reported that, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), they thwarted an assassination attempt on the “head of a public formation” in Odesa.

The authorities have not disclosed how they obtained information about the planned murder but decided to stage the killing of the 56-year-old businessman. They provided photo and video “evidence” of the “completed order” to the hitman, who was supposed to pass it on to the client. The client was apprehended upon receiving the “report.” According to the investigation, the organizer of the crime was to be paid $80,000, of which $70,000 was promised to the hitman.

The victim’s name was not officially revealed, but based on available information, it appears to refer to Hennadiy Beibutyan.

As previously reported, Beibutyan was the head of one of the units assisting law enforcement agencies, including helping military commissars carry out forced mobilization. These units have also been involved in the transmission of bribes to territorial recruitment centers. There is ongoing internal conflict among these units over control of these corruption channels.
