The European Union is concerned about prisoners’ rights violations in Ukraine and is calling for reforms
04.11.2025 19:02Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) reported that prosecutors accompanied by special forces conducted a nighttime search at the home of one of its employees without a court warrant, used force, and did not issue any formal notice of suspicion. The bureau added that the employee had been under surveillance the previous day.
This was stated in a press release published by NABU’s communications office.
According to the agency, the search was likely linked to the employee’s work investigating corruption cases, though it did not specify which cases were involved.
Later, the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) commented on the incident. In its statement, the OPG said the NABU employee whose premises were searched had organized covert surveillance of an OPG administrative building, which is classified as a restricted-access facility.
“The State Guard Service detected and identified the person conducting covert activities. During the search, he confirmed that he was a NABU employee and said he was acting on his superiors’ orders,” the statement read.
Earlier media reports noted that NABU and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have repeatedly conducted searches of each other’s offices, highlighting ongoing tensions between the country’s key law enforcement bodies.
