December 11, 2023The operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to maintain a foothold on the left bank of the Dnieper River lacks sense and only leads to significant losses.
This is reported by the Odessa-based publication “Dumska.”
“Sailors are being ferried across the river and most of them are killed even before reaching the shore. Those who survive and cross over are hit with everything in Russia’s arsenal. People are constantly being thrown across the river, wave after wave. There’s no talk of any breakthrough further ahead; right now, forces are just being expended to stay there. For what? It would have mattered if we were making progress elsewhere. Then these footholds would have distracted the enemy. But no, elsewhere, we’re already in defense. So, what’s the point of all this? Command urgently needs to wrap up this operation. They clearly intended to tie it to an offensive in the Zaporizhzhia region but that’s already over. Therefore, the ongoing attempts to throw marines onto the left bank: something beyond good and evil,” writes “Dumska.”
Telegram channels are also discussing the situation at the Krynyky foothold on the left bank of the Dnieper. This is one of the most enigmatic operations since the start of the full-scale invasion. And it’s perplexing from all sides.
“From Ukraine’s side, the purpose of holding a small, easily penetrated foothold by a few hundred soldiers isn’t very clear. It’s unlikely that such forces can break through the front. Yet, maintaining this foothold across the river demands significant sacrifices. Russian Telegram channels speculate that Krynyky might be a diversion, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces are actually preparing to cross the Dnieper with larger forces elsewhere. However, Russians are closely monitoring the right bank of the Dnieper, continuously striking it. Any attempt to cross it anywhere might not surprise them. It might lead to the same situation as with Krynyky; the creation of a foothold that will be blocked by the Russians.”
