07.03.2026 - 10:01Seven Oschadbank cash-in-transit guards who were previously detained in Hungary have returned to Ukraine. They are now safe.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
According to him, Ukrainian consuls provided all necessary assistance.
“I have already informed the President of Ukraine that we managed to secure the release of seven Ukrainian citizens who had been held in Budapest. They are already safe and have crossed the Ukrainian border. Our consuls provided the necessary assistance. I thank our team at the Foreign Ministry and the Embassy of Ukraine in Hungary, as well as our law enforcement agencies, government institutions, state banks, and everyone who helped achieve their release,” the statement said.
As a reminder, Hungary had claimed that the Oschadbank guards and two of their vehicles carrying cash in euros and dollars, as well as gold, were detained in a money-laundering case.
Hungary also said that along with the detained cash-in-transit guards, former Security Service of Ukraine General Hennadii Kuznetsov—previously head of the Center for Special Counterterrorism Operations—was detained in Budapest.
