“Strike at the backbone”: a Ukrainian commander urged military recruiters to toughen measures against draft dodgers
October 26, 2024The $1.1 billion provided to Ukraine in 2022 lacks sufficient documentation, highlighting broader issues in tracking the $76 billion allocated to Kyiv in recent years.
This was reported in a recent report by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Inspector General.
The report notes that the Pentagon lacks confidence that the $1.1 billion was used as intended, with the auditor categorizing it as “questionable spending.”
“Without adequate documentation to justify and verify these payments, the Department of Defense cannot assure the public, department leadership, or Congress of the transparency regarding the use of aid funds for Ukraine,” stated the Inspector General’s Office.
Previously, a Pentagon inspector uncovered overspending in the funds allocated for aid to Ukraine. The reports cover $44 billion provided by four U.S. agencies to address economic and humanitarian crises, along with $42 billion for defense and security assistance.
