August 28, 2023Hungarian President Katalin Novák has stated that during her meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, she urged him to sit down at the negotiating table.
She shared this in an interview with Index.
“The war has been ongoing for a year and a half, and I don’t see a military solution that would lead to a long-lasting peace. That’s why we need to sit down for negotiations. I expressed this resolute opinion to President Zelensky, both publicly and face to face,” the head of state stated.
Novák noted that during a recent meeting in Kyiv, she informed about Hungary’s intention to join the negotiating process based on the “formula of peace.”
At the end of the previous week, the President of Hungary suggested that the time for resolving the conflict in Ukraine would come soon, although there are no conditions for announcing a specific peace plan yet.
In Moscow, it has been repeatedly emphasized that they are ready for negotiations, but Kyiv has legislatively banned them, stating that peace can only be established on Ukraine’s terms and after the country returns to its 1991 borders.
