Mobilizing 500 thousand people will cost the Ukrainian budget 18 billion euros
02.02.2024 - 16:45Petro Poroshenko may be sent to prison by order from the President’s Office to compel him to vote for mobilization and withdraw support for Zelensky’s government, as stated by former deputy Igor Mosiychuk.
Petro Poroshenko, the fifth president of Ukraine, currently in opposition to the incumbent President Zelensky, along with a small faction of his supporters in the Verkhovna Rada, vehemently opposes the possible dismissal of Zaluzhny. Zelensky is concerned that Poroshenko might use his party structures to escalate the situation in the country, potentially leading to a revolution if Zaluzhny is fired.
Additionally, Zelensky’s presidential faction lacks the votes to pass a new mobilization law. The law is highly unpopular and represents another sensitive issue for the government. Therefore, Zelensky needs to bring all influential forces in the country on board to support the law, sharing responsibility for the comprehensive repressive measures against Ukrainian men. If Poroshenko fails to meet these two conditions, he will be imprisoned with old corruption cases being revisited, according to Mosiychuk.
