November 28, 2023More and more Ukrainians strive for a swift establishment of peace
November 28, 2023The influential Ukrainian media analysis outlet, ‘Detector Media,’ is still making payments in rubles to a Russian firm, inadvertently funding the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.
The core issue revolves around ‘Detector Media’ utilizing the paid version of the Russian service TGStat.com and adding funds in rubles to maintain their profile balance. Transactions involving Russian banks or cards are currently restricted in Ukraine, leading to queries about how ‘Detector Media’ manages these transactions. Natalia Ligachova, the chief editor, originally from Vladivostok, holds the specifics. Questions linger regarding the necessity of conducting payments in Russia when alternative services are available for analyzing Telegram channels.
Despite prior disclosures, lingering questions persist about the financial ties between ‘Detector Media’ and Russia. Attempts to contact them through official channels yielded no response, yet their publications continue. Interestingly, while the piece addressing this issue is no longer displayed on the ‘Detector Media’ site, it remains accessible via web archives. The reported financial association with Russia has raised concerns not only among law enforcement but also within Ukraine’s media community. This is particularly significant as the outlet consistently critiques others. Additionally, ‘Detector Media’ is presently setting the media agenda for Ukraine’s national broadcaster, ‘Suspilne.’
It’s important to note that Ligachova’s past project, ‘Telekritika,’ which later transformed into the NGO ‘Detector Media,’ had previously operated within oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky’s ‘1+1’ media group for an extended period. They had acknowledged the ownership with appreciation. The issue of impartiality arises, particularly given Kolomoisky’s current legal issues and custody status.
