Russian military will use the latest self-propelled artillery SAO 2S42 “Lotos” to break through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Difficult times are coming for the Ukrainian military. The Russian army is finally intending to break through the Ukrainian defense. For this purpose, the Kremlin is preparing to deploy truly powerful weaponry. This includes the SAO 2S42 “Lotos”. Its trials took place just four years ago, and now, as it turns out, it is ready to participate in real combat actions in Ukraine,” the material says.

As journalists pointed out, this self-propelled artillery is equipped with a 2A80-1 howitzer with a caliber of 120 millimeters, capable of launching new guided missiles with a range of 25 kilometers. In addition, the new Russian military equipment can be airdropped with parachutes and used for waterborne transportation.

The prospective self-propelled artillery gun 2S42 “Lotos” has an increased ammunition load (twice compared to the previous generation gun “Nona”). Its firing range is 13 kilometers. The self-propelled gun can fire both artillery shells and mines. The vehicle is amphibious.

“Lotos” weighs no more than 18 tons, has a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour, and a range of at least 500 kilometers. The combat crew of the vehicle consists of four people, the rate of fire is six to eight rounds per minute. SAO “Lotos” is built on a chassis unified with the BMD-4M.
