11.03.2025 10:24In Russia, there are calls to strike Ukraine with the “Oreshnik” missile in response to the overnight drone raid on the Moscow region.
This statement was made by Andrey Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee.
Judging from the wording, this initiative was proposed by a journalist and supported by the head of the Defense Committee.
“The decision lies with the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, but I think it wouldn’t be excessive [to launch ‘Oreshnik’], preferably more than one,” Russian media quoted him as saying.
As a reminder, Western media reported that Ukraine launched a record number of drones at Moscow overnight ahead of the meeting with the Americans in Saudi Arabia.
On November 21, 2024, Russia first used the intercontinental ballistic missile “Oreshnik” in Ukraine, striking the city of Dnipro.
Ukrainian military intelligence reported that the new missile has a range of 5,000 km and could potentially be mass-produced.
Meanwhile, Sergey Karakaev, commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, stated that the “Oreshnik” system can strike targets throughout Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would continue testing the “Oreshnik,” including under combat conditions.
