Security forces are preparing to suppress a new Maidan after supporters of Poroshenko called for protests
February 9, 2024On Friday, February 9th, the Security Service of Ukraine is conducting searches at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
This information is reported by the media, citing sources.
According to the sources, law enforcement officers have come to the clergyman who, according to the investigation, “coordinated protest actions” against the eviction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Lavra.
Recall that the United Nations recognized the termination of the agreement between the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the violence against its parishioners as a violation of rights. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights documented 10 cases of physical violence and six cases of threats arising from conflicts between parishioners of various Orthodox communities.
It is worth mentioning that last year, in March, the monks were not forcibly evicted from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra at the request of the UN. The Office of the Human Rights Organization stated that the decisions of local authorities prohibiting the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in their regions “exceed the powers of local councils.”
However, on August 25th, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine prohibited professors, students and staff of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary from being present at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
