March 8, 2024The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, described the situation regarding nuclear and physical safety at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as precarious. This was stated in the agency’s announcement.
It is also reported that Grossi, during the meeting with Putin, called for “maximum military restraint.” The IAEA will continue to closely monitor the personnel situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Grossi stated. It is noteworthy that Grossi met with Putin behind closed doors without cameras. Their conversation lasted 40 minutes, and Putin’s press secretary refused to comment on the subject of the discussion.
Recall that yesterday the Board of Governors of the organization voted on a resolution presented by Ukraine, with harsh wordings directed at Russia and a demand for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the station. “For” voted 20 states, 12 abstained. Russia and China voted against.
