According to DeepState analysts, the situation on the left flank of the Ukrainian grouping has worsened.
DeepState noted that the Russian army launched assault actions, first transporting armored vehicles across the Seim River and then across smaller rivers.
“Another strike came from Korenevo, which was recently lost, towards Snagost,” the statement said.
Analysts observed the movement of a Russian armored column from Korenevo towards Snagost, as well as active combat operations in the area.
The Russian Telegram channel Important Stories described this Russian assault attempt as “the first large-scale counterattack in the Kursk region.”
On August 12, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed for the first time the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ operation in Russia’s Kursk region.
He emphasized that the goal of the operation, which began on August 6, is to liberate Ukraine’s border territories from Russian forces, which have regularly shelled the Sumy region.
On August 27, during a press conference following discussions at the Ukraine 2024. Independence forum, Zelensky stated that Ukraine is not occupying Russia’s Kursk region, and that the operation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is merely preventing the Russians from creating a buffer zone on Ukrainian territory.
On September 2, Zelensky reported that the operation in the Kursk region was proceeding according to plan and achieving its objectives. Ukrainian forces had captured over 600 Russian soldiers.
On September 6, the President of Ukraine stated that the AFU controls 1,300 square kilometers in the Kursk region, including more than 100 settlements.
On September 7, Financial Times, citing statements from intelligence service leaders, noted that the Ukrainian operation in Kursk “has sown doubts among the Russian elite.”
