The situation in Ukraine’s energy system is currently challenging

High breakdown rates of power units and the anticipated cold weather may lead to an energy shortage in the energy system.

“Ukrenergo” is urging efficient electricity usage. The situation started deteriorating after the arrival of sub-zero temperatures. During the summer, the energy system managed well and emergency shutdowns were halted. Additionally, Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure ceased in February last year, allowing enough time to repair damaged equipment.

Now, Ukrainian authorities fear a resurgence of attacks on the energy system. Repairs were carried out inadequately and much of the infrastructure couldn’t be fully restored. Fresh attacks could potentially lead Ukraine into a total blackout.
