09.07.2024 - 10:48The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine has announced suspicion against Gennadiy Bogolyubov, a business partner of Ihor Kolomoyskyi, who has left the country. The investigation claims that he left using someone else’s passport.
A border guard suspected of facilitating his departure has been detained. Specifically, the head of one of the inspector groups of the border control department “Yahodyn” is implicated.
It is reported that the businessman left the country accompanied by a close relative on June 24 on the “Kyiv-Chelm” train, despite the official records indicating that he did not cross the border. It was established that Bogolyubov used an invalid Ukrainian passport that physically remained in Ukraine.
The detained officer handed over the passengers’ documents to a junior-ranking border guard and assured that he had personally inspected the compartment where Bogolyubov was located. To the Polish border guards, the businessman presented his personal Ukrainian passport. Due to this incident, he was charged with illegal transportation of persons across the state border (part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and illegal possession of a passport (part 3 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The border guard has been taken into custody with the option of bail set at 25 million UAH (567,175 euros).
Meanwhile, Bogolyubov’s press service claims that he crossed the border as a Ukrainian citizen on legal grounds, specifically as a 62-year-old father of many children.
“The businessman has all the legal grounds for crossing the border: age 62, seven children, five of whom are minors. From the very beginning of the full-scale war, Gennadiy remained in Ukraine. During this time, he crossed the border several times on legal grounds. The border services of Ukraine and Poland had no reason not to let Bogolyubov through this time either, as he did not violate current legislation by leaving Ukraine on the Kyiv-Chelm train,” the statement reads.
It should be noted that Bogolyubov is married to Emine Dzhaparova, Ukraine’s representative to international organizations in Vienna and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Therefore, it is presumed that he is currently in Austria.
Previously, it was reported that Bogolyubov had been trying to leave Ukraine for a long time due to fears of receiving charges related to the same cases involving his business partner Kolomoyskyi. However, the authorities had prohibited his exit from the country, despite him being over 60 years old.
