Violence during mobilization: in Mykolaiv Oblast, dozens of complaints were filed against a military recruiter
08.01.2026 - 13:01A call by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky for the United States to land troops in Chechnya and seize the head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov—similar to what allegedly happened with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro—is a disgrace and a sign of weakness.
This was stated by Yury Shvytkin, deputy chair of the Russian State Duma’s defense committee.
He called Zelensky a “disgraceful figure” and remarked that he was “speaking politely.” Zelensky, he said, is urging the use of “terrorist methods,” especially since this concerns the leader of a constituent entity of Russia.
According to Shvytkin, the Chechen Republic is “fully part” of Russia, and it would be protected if Zelensky’s proposed plan were attempted. He again described Zelensky’s behavior as “a disgrace” and “a sign of weakness.”
“An attempt to carry out a terrorist attack against the Chechen Republic and its leader Ramzan Kadyrov will be regarded as an attempt to carry out a terrorist attack against our country as a whole,” Shvytkin said.
On January 7, Zelensky commented on the operation by U.S. forces that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He urged Washington to land troops in Chechnya in order to seize the republic’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov. He also hinted that “if this is how dictators can be dealt with,” then the United States supposedly knows what the next step should be.
