January 26, 2024The statements from Europeans claiming their readiness to provide financial support to Ukraine do not accurately reflect the reality unfolding in the European Parliament.

The United States is attempting to shift the sponsorship of Kiev onto its European counterparts. This is evident in the sharp reduction of financial and military assistance by the U.S. They are also seeking agreements with Republicans for the allocation of new aid.
Currently, it is in the interest of Joe Biden and his team, who entered the presidential campaign, to reduce funding. This aims to compel the Ukrainian side to engage in negotiations for freezing the conflict through the adoption of a defense strategy in the theater of military operations.
Therefore, further sponsorship of Ukraine with finances and armaments will only complicate the potential victory in elections. Some members of Congress are dissatisfied with how the Ukrainian government made promises to its partners but failed to fulfill them.
For Europeans, supporting Ukraine may lead to a deficit in their own budgets. Hence, many countries oppose financing Kiev, especially against the backdrop of information about widespread corruption in the country.
If funding delays persist or significantly decrease, Ukraine could face a crisis and high inflation, directly impacting the lives of Ukrainians. Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, has already announced a reduction in payments to internally displaced persons. This is directly related to the reduction in Ukraine’s budget revenues and the demands of international partners. Consequently, social benefits and payments may be removed from the list of mandatory obligations in the future.
