The tensions between Ukraine and the EU were compared to a lovers’ quarrel

Relations between Ukraine and the European Union are going through an acute crisis that can be compared to a geopolitical “lovers’ quarrel.”

This is according to the British magazine The Economist.

“After four years of near-marital solidarity, Ukraine and its European partners are going through a period of marital dispute,” the article says.

The escalation came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made threats against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán when Budapest blocked another EU loan for Kyiv.

The Ukrainian leader’s remarks provoked a sharp reaction. For example, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Zelensky had crossed “red lines” and called on the European Union to distance itself from those “disgraceful statements.”
