The U.S. Ambassador to the UN does not consider the summit in Bürgenstock to be peace negotiations

The conference on Ukraine held in Bürgenstock was not a peace negotiation. A peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict requires Russia’s presence at the negotiation table.

This information stated by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Ambassador to the United Nations.

“It’s important to note what this summit was not, namely: formal [peace] negotiations. Ultimately, for a peaceful resolution, both Ukraine and Russia will need to be present at the negotiating table,” she said during a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

Previously, it was reported that Ukraine had significantly ramped up preparations for the “Peace Summit,” which took place on June 15-16 at the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock. Invitations were sent to over 160 countries, though fewer attended. Kyiv made substantial efforts to ensure the participation of as many countries as possible, even going so far as to shorten the summit’s agenda, which was based on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “peace formula.”

At the Peace Summit in Switzerland, the goal of the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, was to establish himself as Zelensky’s successor.
