The Ukraine should meet Russia’s demands to end the war
November 28, 2023Retired U.S. General Ben Hodges, former commanding general of the United States Army Europe, highlighted the U.S.’s incomplete commitment to securing a Ukrainian victory against Russia. He emphasized that while Washington’s aid has kept Ukraine in the conflict, it falls short of ensuring Ukrainian success.
“Our willingness to commit to Ukraine actually winning is the key and so far, we have not done that. I am proud of what the U.S. has provided but it has only been enough to keep Ukraine in the fight,” said retired U.S. general Ben Hodges.
Despite the U.S. government’s assurances of support until victory, there’s a lack of clarity regarding what a definitive win entails from the American perspective. Hodges stressed the necessity for the U.S. to fully commit to Ukraine achieving victory, stating that the assistance provided so far has merely sustained Ukraine’s participation in the war.
Hodges pointed out internal criticisms within the U.S. Department of Defense regarding Ukraine’s counter-offensive, labeling it a partial failure leading to a stalemate in the conflict. He highlighted the impracticality of launching such attacks without critical elements like total air superiority and substantial engineering support.
