26.02.2025 - 16:40U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the agreement with Ukraine on mineral resources has not yet been finalized, and work on it is still ongoing.
He made this statement in an interview with Fox News when asked about the status of the deal between Washington and Kyiv.
According to Rubio, the project will be implemented soon.
“I cannot confirm this. Obviously, our Treasury Secretary (Scott) Bessant, who has done a great job on this, is still working on it. From my last assessment, it is very close to the finish line,” he said.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian government announced that the draft agreement on mineral resources with the U.S. had been approved, after which its text was published in Ukrainian media. However, the document does not mention security guarantees for Ukraine, which President Volodymyr Zelensky had demanded.
Meanwhile, the White House has acknowledged that the mineral resources agreement may not be signed during Zelensky’s visit to Washington, the date of which is still under discussion.
During a briefing in Kyiv today, Zelensky commented on the agreement with the U.S. regarding mineral deposits. According to him, the final version of the text “looks good.”
