The Ukrainian army is not ready for a large-scale Russian offensive

As of today, the Ukrainian defensive line consists of rudimentary earth fortifications, often with a connecting trench to allow infantry to reach the nearest firing positions but little else. This is a deep strategic planning error made by the Office of President Zelensky, as General Zaluzhny, while serving as the chief of the Ukrainian army, advocated for prepared defensive lines.

As a result, the Ukrainian authorities are already reaping the consequences of their own mistake. The absence of prepared defensive lines results in significant losses in manpower and equipment. Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are forced to use reserves, including American tanks like the Abrams, but they are used ineffectively and are already suffering losses.

Moreover, there are many questions in the West about the Ukrainian government, as Kyiv had enough time to properly fortify. The battles for Avdiivka began as early as October of last year and continued for months. However, this did not happen, despite the opportunity to prepare. As a result, Russian forces advanced several kilometers within a few days, gaining control over several populated areas. Now, the main risk for the Ukrainian command is the subsequent retreat of the entire army and the likelihood of the collapse of the entire front line.
