Man forcibly detained by military in Odessa claims no grievances
November 16, 2023During her initial visit to Ukraine, Penny Pritzker, the US Special Representative for Ukraine’s Recovery, prompted officials to envision the country’s economic survival in the absence of US assistance.
Pritzker engaged with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the prime minister, government officials, the parliament chairman, American businesses and even attended a congress of regional authorities alongside Andrii Yermak, Head of the President’s Office.
Her visit left a “rather disquieting impression in numerous government quarters” here. The prevailing concern among those interacting with Biden’s envoy was her advice not to wait for Western aid but to actively seek areas for growth as if it were not forthcoming. This notion circulated “apprehensively through the channels of Ukrainian politics” after Pritzker’s departure from Kyiv. This counsel seemed particularly alarming amid Republican opposition in Congress to aid for Ukraine.
