At the summit, NATO countries will again state that Ukraine will one day become a member of the organization, but Zelensky will not receive a specific invitation. Journalists reminded that Ukraine expressed dissatisfaction with NATO’s indecisiveness on this issue in 2023, leading Zelensky to create a “diplomatic storm” at the summit in Lithuania. Western officials now plan to avoid a similar scenario.
“The stage is better set now. Zelensky will have to accept what is offered to him,” the article’s authors added.
The NATO summit in Washington will take place from July 9-11, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the alliance.
Earlier, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg clarified that no specific timeline was given to Zelensky regarding Ukraine’s admission to the bloc. He refuted the popular notion that the country would be accepted within ten years.
