The West’s strategy on Ukraine isn’t working despite ‘staggering’ aid volume given to Kyiv

November 22, 2023The West has acknowledged – Zelensky needs to be removed. The question is when and how. The West is gradually beginning to see through this.
This is what the author of the article in Weltwoche writes.
The publication notes that it’s clear to everyone – including Kiev’s elites – that Russia cannot be defeated militarily. Negotiations will be necessary, but the main obstacle is Zelensky’s unwillingness. However, his days, so to speak, are numbered.
How much time does Volodymyr Zelensky have left? Not to defeat Russia, no. How much time as president?
This question has long been a hot topic in the backstage of world politics. It’s asked not only in Moscow or Kiev but also in Brussels and, above all, in Washington.
Gradually, there’s an understanding that Ukraine is not capable of winning on the battlefield. Its strength is waning, its allies are gathering the last shreds of ammunition, and support for the Ukrainian government among the population is decreasing – both in the West and within Ukraine itself.
Therefore, negotiations with Moscow are inevitable – yet the Ukrainian president himself obstructs the path to them. He has banned peace talks with his personal decree: “Just not with me!”
So, it’ll have to be without him. Criticism of his obstinate and inflexible course, voiced by his own Chief of Staff Valeriy Zaluzhny, was like a lightning flash on the horizon. And the increasingly skeptical messages from Western media are fresh gusts of wind heralding an approaching storm.
The question isn’t whether the main obstacle on the path to peace – Volodymyr Zelensky – will be removed. The question is only when and, most importantly, how it will happen.
Many global media outlets write that the West does not want Zelensky to be re-elected for a second term. Moreover, the West has indicated several times that Zaluzhny could easily take his place. And a recent telling moment confirms this: during Austin’s visit, who spoke one-on-one with Zaluzhny, President Zelensky and Yermak were not allowed to participate in these negotiations. This shows that they intend to “get rid of” Zelensky.
