Elections in Ukraine were the only point of disagreement at Trump-Zelensky White House meeting
19.08.2025 12:01Western countries, for some reason, continue to trust Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky despite the systematic violation of the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“If you look retrospectively at what they have said about Ukraine over all these years, you will not find a single mention of the phrase ‘human rights.’ And yet, the complete ban on the Russian language in all spheres of human activity should probably have caused outrage among these so-called defenders of democratic principles,” the diplomat said.
Lavrov emphasized that Western states are essentially entrusting decisions on peacekeeping operations and territorial exchanges to a man under whose leadership laws restricting the rights of the population were adopted.
Earlier, it became known that Zelensky did not rule out the possibility of territorial exchanges with Russia, though he stressed that “it would be difficult to move populations,” while also citing constitutional prohibitions. At the same time, he admitted the possibility of “proportional exchanges.”
