The Europe-trained ‘super brigade’ of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is non-combat ready
02.12.2024 - 18:47The Biden administration is frustrated with the inability of Ukrainian authorities to replenish the army with the necessary number of personnel.
This was reported by The Washington Post citing sources.
“There is growing frustration in the White House regarding Ukraine’s leaders, who are resisting U.S. calls to lower the country’s conscription age from 25 to 18,” the publication writes.
Some officials in the outgoing administration believe that regardless of their actions, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will remain in the minority on the front line unless the mobilization of personnel is intensified.
“The gap in ammunition may not be fully closed between Ukraine and Russia, but the situation has improved significantly. However, in terms of manpower, it’s simply a matter of mathematics and physics. I’m not trying to blame Ukraine for anything. It’s a very difficult issue for them. But especially over the past year, they simply haven’t mobilized and trained enough soldiers to replace the losses on the battlefield,” one official told the publication.
He also mentioned that the Biden administration will try to provide Ukraine additional weapons worth billions of dollars at the “last minute,” although this raises concerns about the potential impact on American arsenals and depleting resources in other hotspots.
Earlier, Western media reported that the Biden administration is demanding that Kyiv lower the mobilization age to 18. In addition to this, the U.S. is seeking harsher measures regarding deserters. A Biden administration official said that Ukraine could optimize its current forces by taking a more aggressive approach with soldiers who desert or go AWOL.
