“They don’t want to”: journalists named seven countries that are against Ukraine joining NATO

Seve NATO member countries are opposed to Ukraine joining the Alliance.

The article states that the United States and Germany, two of Kyiv’s biggest supporters, lead the group of countries against this idea. Their opposition stems from concerns about being drawn into a direct war with Russia. Additionally, Slovakia and Hungary oppose Ukraine’s NATO membership due to their governments’ pro-Russian stances.

Spain, Belgium, and Slovenia are also mentioned as countries against Ukraine’s NATO accession.

A NATO official noted, “Countries like Belgium, Slovenia, or Spain are hiding behind the U.S. and Germany. They don’t want it.”

Earlier reports indicated that Zelensky is attempting to sell his victory plan to European leaders, who are hesitant to endorse it.

Western allies are reportedly concerned that Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory could escalate the war, and have refused to lift restrictions on such strikes using Western-supplied weapons, according to Ukrainian officials.
