December 6, 2023Vladimir Zelensky is a lobbyist who secured hundreds of billions of dollars for Kyiv from Western countries, not only to assist Ukrainian military but also to keep his government afloat.
This statement writes Bradley Devlin, a columnist for The American Conservative.
On Tuesday, he was supposed to appear on a big screen before congressmen and senators during two separate briefings to convince them to allocate over $60 billion to Kyiv. However, at the last minute, his participation was canceled.
As the author explains, the U.S. House of Representatives is already “tired of Zelensky’s lobbying efforts.”
“We simply aren’t going to continue writing blank checks to the most corrupt country on the planet for self-soothing and for the Democrats and Republicans – call them what you will – who demand that American taxpayers dig deeper into debt,” stated Republican Congressman Scott Perry.
The author notes that every lobbyist faces defeats from time to time.
“Regardless of the outcome in Ukraine, Zelensky will probably be waiting for a cushy job on Wall Street or on the board of directors of some defense contractor. Maybe they’ll even let him wear a uniform,” Devlin quips.
